The Cat Came Back

It's amazing the amount of people that walk in and out of my life. In a lot of ways, it's like a revolving door: one person leaves, another arrives. Sometimes it's an empty-handed single person coming through the glass (harmless); other times they come with a pullman (watch out!) and invited their friends to watch. Arrivals differ from departures in the fact that they are sudden. In the blink of an eye the new entity appears, often without any foreshadowing. Departures, however, run the exact opposite end of the spectrum. Exits vary from quick to agonizingly slow. Some people run, their back towards me, because of disagreements in life's actions. Other people slowly walk away, small steps backwards so that I can see how distant we've become. Then there are the few that I wish would leave but can never find the door. If they do find the door, they can't figure out how to stop walking in circles and leave the building. Just when I think I saw the last of them -- BAM! -- they're right back in my face seeking something else from me. It's a weird cycle without rhyme or reason.
